So it seems I am the recruiter...
Almost a week and a half ago now, my boss sort of cornered me one day at school. I'm not sure if it's the Korean way, or just him. I can tell just by the look on his face quite often if he wants to tell me anything. He usually looks as though he isn't sure how to begin though. But, after I asked him what was up, in his own Choi sort of way he asked me if I could put out another ad and look for 2 new teachers. They really want to get rid of Nora and it seems now Ernest as well. They were going to talk to him about the fact that the parents have been complaining and they've been losing students and then he flaked out on 2 different speech contests that he was supposed to help judge on as well. I had to MC both of them, by the way. He pretty much dug his own hole, after they had already tried to help him and offer a bunch of suggestions many times, all of which he didn't implement or use. He just doesn't seem like he was cut out to teach. This strikes me as funny, because he has some experience teaching at home. That's without even mentioning that he pretty much deceived me in saying that his wife (now ex...no he didn't mention this) was okay with him coming. Also, he's now engadged to a Korean woman suddenly and claimed that it was just by chance. Hmmmm....is that why she met you at the airport? You just happened to meet her just outside the gate? Anyhow....he's leaving the school either way.
Anyhow...it seems I'm the honorary recruiter of the Milak English Friends Academy. Not that I mind, but it is a bit of extra work. I go online every day and email a whole slew of people who post their resumes on Daves ESL Cafe, the largest ESL sight on the web. The good news is that I did get him, my boss, to pay for an ad as well as pay so that I could see the resumes. The latter of the two we didn't do before. So now every morning or night, I'm on the computer emailing somewhere between 10-20 perspective teachers every day. They hired one man just today, so it seems I only need to find one more. I've been emailing a girl that went to Smith and seems really nice these last couple of days. She's all but signed up. We are just discussing some things with regards to the contract. She's had some pretty specific questions about both the contract and the job though. I've been finding though that that generally is a good sign. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm going to talk to her again tomorrow morning after I get up. The good news is that the man they did hire will start work sometime between July 1st and 5th. He'll be taking Nora's classes for the time being, but will switch over to Ernest's schedule after we find a permanent replacement for him. They want her gone much more urgently though, which is why this man, although hired to replace Ernest, will teach her classes for probably a couple of weeks.
That's all for now. This is your newly appointed English Friends Recruiter signing off.
PS--Choi did say he'd compensate me for each new teacher I get. I haven't the foggiest what that may be, but we'll just wait and see.
